ROOTED IN COMMUNITY COMMITED TO GROWTH

Hi, I’m Norma Contreras and I’m running for San Diego County Board of Supervisors because I believe every community in District 5 deserves to be seen, heard, and supported. I grew up in Pauma Valley and on the La Jolla Reservation, and I’ve experienced every part of our region from the coast to the mountains, deserts, and valleys. As a proud member of the La Jolla Band of Luiseño Indians and a person of Hispanic heritage, my roots reflect the rich diversity of our district. I’ve witnessed both the beauty of our communities and the very real challenges many of our neighbors face.

Alongside our vibrant culture and strong, tight-knit communities, I’ve seen the impacts of homelessness, substance use, and mental health challenges. I’ve also seen how systemic barriers and outdated policies have limited access to resources for far too many families. That reality has stayed with me and it’s why I believe advocacy alone isn’t enough. We need leadership that is willing to take action and address root causes.

My life’s work has been grounded in service. For nearly two decades, I’ve worked alongside Native communities and diverse populations to expand access to resources, strengthen families, and build opportunities for future generations. As a former Tribal Chairwoman of the La Jolla Band of Luiseño Indians, I’ve led with integrity and collaboration bringing people together to advance economic development, protect cultural identity, and improve community well-being. I’m running because this work is personal. It’s about ensuring every family has a fair chance, building a thriving local economy, and restoring hope in our communities. I’m committed to expanding opportunity, improving public safety, protecting our environment, and delivering real results for the people of District 5. This campaign is about all of us our future, our families, and our shared responsibility to build a stronger, more equitable community.
